The past year and a half has prompted a lot of questions for me from our clients, my friends and family members regarding housing and homeowner equity.  “Is my equity safe?” is the question that I usually get, especially from people who owned a house during the crash of ’07-08.  We see a blip with housing and everyone’s memory goes straight to “crash”!  I love this graph because in so many instances if we, as humans, get some perspective on a situation we will most always make better decisions and calm down about whatever has us riled up.  Homes are not shoes, they’re not cars and they certainly aren’t the latest gadget.  This is one of the strongest paths to personal wealth in our country.  If you already own a home, you’ve probably experienced this.  If you’d like to own a home, this graph is reassuring that it’s a long game, it’s not a sprint.  And as you gain equity in your home, you are ALSO enjoying all the other benefits of homeownership that humans tend to forget when they are only focused on the immediate situation.  I love chatting about this kind of information so don’t hesitate to reach out with your questions!
